NAMASTE! Chitcul, H.P., India 1994.

“5.30am – the door is flung wide.

BANG! NAMASTE! Ushtie, ushtie!

Cha piu, cha piu!

No sleeping in, in this quarter!

We took my ‘pati’ (local cloth – very expensive – £12.00!) to the tailor. In one day he is going to make me some Kinnauri men’s trousers!! Very special cloth, quite water and certainly wind proof. In Scotland…bahuuut achaa!

‘Didi’ also said that she is going to give me, despite my protest a Kinnauri jacket. These cost around 1000 rps! It is in her home and we are going there tomorrow!”
