Paper bark and seed jewellery. Kinnaur, H.P., India, 1993.

This was all pressed into the diary. This paper-like birch bark fascinated me. It was actually used in the mountains as paper (mainly for religious writings). It would peel off the trees in big sheets and is still strong and fresh looking today 12 years later! The papery flower seeds were hung on colourful threads and worn pinned to their thick woven hats and jackets. I do not remember if they had any significance other than decoration. (The People Tree leaflet was actually from Delhi were I had met an inspiring group of young Indian guys who had set up an eco minded group. They were very ahead of the times and I had huge admiration for them.) Pressed bark and the dry flower decoration.
